INSTALLING PMATRIX CODEC (Mjpeg)

For Windows 98

 

A self extracting .exe archive is downloaded.    Run (double click) the M3JPEG.exe and move/expand into a directory of your choosing.    I suggest making a folder named Morgan under the C:\

There will be 4  folders after unzipping :       Doc,  MMTray,  Win9x, and WinNT

 

The following is a visual guide on installing the codec  step by step

 

Step 1

Click on Start Button,  Scroll to Settings, Select Control Panel

Select  Add  New HARDWARE

Begin Install Wizard           Click   NEXT

Windows 98 will attempt to look for the Hardware to Install   Click NEXT

Step 5

Win98 will find some hardware and ask you if this is what you want it installed.  Check "No, the device isn't on the list" and click NEXT

Step 6

Windows will now search for hardware that is not Plug and Pray, tell it "No, I want to select the hardware from a list" and click NEXT

Step 7

At the hardware type dialog, select    "Sound, video, and game controllers"

Click on it to Highlight

Click NEXT

Step 8

When presented with the manufacturers/model dialog, select "Have disk".

Browse for the directory you expanded the codec into

Select the OEMSETUP.INF file

This should already be highlighted. Click OK  

 

Step 11

and OK in the "Install from disk" dialog


 

 

Step 12

Click OK when "Morgan Multimedia  MJPEG Codec " is displayed.

 

 

Step 13

If any dialogs asking to use a current or the new version
of PMJPEG32.DLL are displayed, select NEW

otherwise

Click finish to copy and install the codec files.

The new software M-JPEG codec is now installed and ready for use. Windows 98 asks to restart your computer.

Our experience is this is not needed to use the new codec. If you experience problems, then go ahead and restart.

This codec can be custom configured.   Go to the folder where you expanded your codec and find the MMTray folder and click to open.  You will find MMtray.exe.  Double click on it to execute.  It will now appear in your task bar.  Click on it.  A configuration panel will appear:

 

I have found that disabling (unchecking) the MMX improves your CPU performance.  Above is how I configure the codec for my CU setup.   There is an install.htm in the folder that will help you with information on codec settings or you can click here    and view it on my website.
