QuickCam Home quits functioning in CU-SeeMe after a short time
Logitech has identified an issue with using the video streaming capability of CU-SeeMe
with the QuickCam Home. This issue typically occurs anywhere from 10 seconds to 5 minutes
into a call. The symptoms include the camera image going
black or freezing. In most situations the camera's light will also turn off. This means
that the camera will no longer be accessible by any application until the system has been
rebooted. Although it's possible to continue in the conference room, the camera will no
longer be sending video.
In order to resolve this issue, the streaming ability of CU-SeeMe must be disabled. This
can be done by editing a setting in the Registry. Use the following instructions to
complete this task:
IMPORTANT NOTE: In order to solve some issues, this document makes references to editing
the Windows 98 Registry. For information about how to edit the registry, view the
"Changing Keys And Values" on-line Help topic in Registry Editor
(REGEDIT.EXE).
Make a backup copy of the registry files (SYSTEM.DAT and USER.DAT) before you edit the
registry.
WARNING: Using the Registry Editor incorrectly may cause symptoms requiring a
reinstallation of Windows 98. Logitech is not responsible for issues which may result from
incorrect use of the Registry Editor. Use the Registry Editor at your own
discretion. The Registry Editor should only be used to make the exact changes described.
1. Click on "Start", then "Run". In the Open line, type REGEDIT and
hit [enter]. This will open the Windows 95/98 Registry Editor.
2. Click on the '+' next to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"

3. Click on the '+' next to "Software"

4. Click on the '+' next to "White Pine"

5. Click on the '+' next to "CU-SeeMe"

6. Click on the '+' next to "3.1"

7. Highlight the folder labeled "General"

8. On the right hand side of the screen highlight the entry labeled "Disable
Streaming"
9. Click on "Edit" menu in the Registry Editor Menu bar and select
"Modify"

10. You will now be prompted with an "Edit String" window
11. Change the "Value data" for this key from "No" to
"Yes"

11. Close the Registry Editor (saving is automatic) and reboot your system

Once these steps have been completed, the QuickCam Home should function correctly in
CU-SeeMe.
